Your Holiday at Butcombe Farm....

Butcombe Farm, located at the doorway to the south west of England, provides an ideal location for whatever style of holiday you are seeking. Further information on local facilities and places to visit can be supplied on request.

Relaxing

If your need is simply to let go and enjoy the countryside environment, then the many local walks will please and delight. These can take you through the local fields and woodland, around the lake or up onto the Mendip Hills. Further a field you could explore Exmoor, the Quantock Hills or the Cotswolds.

A little help is at hand with aromatherapy massage and reflexology, available locally. Perhaps a facial or manicure would rejuvenate you?

Heritage

Bristol and Bath are close by, with museums, exhibitions, architectural and historical treasures too numerous to detail here.

Within easy drive are the cathedral city of Wells; the pagan centre of Glastonbury, with its’ legends of King Arthur; the mysteries of Cheddar and Wookey Hole caves; the enigma of Stone Henge; and the treasure of stately homes like Bowood House.

Somerset has many other secrets waiting to be discovered. The peat extraction from the moors dating back to the iron age; the natural history and wildlife of the moors and levels; the ancient willow industry; and medieval settlements like Dunster, with its’ fascinating castle.

Culture

Bristol attractions include Explore@Bristol, a hands-on science museum, and Wildscreen@Bristol, a breathtaking journey through the natural world with interactive exhibits, a rain forest and the only giant-screen IMAX cinema in the South West.

Museums and galleries include the Industrial Museum, Harveys Wine Cellars and restaurant, City Museum and Art Gallery, Watershed and Arnolfini media centres in Bristol; the National Costume Museum, American Museum, Octagon Photographic Gallery.

Among the many other local attractions are Bristol Zoo and Gardens, Westonbirt Arboretum, Longleat House and Safari Park, Stourhead House and Garden and Prior Park Landscape Garden.

Theatres include Bristol Hippodrome and Old Vic Theatre, Bath Theatre Royal and Weston-Super-Mare Playhouse.

Wine tasting at Butcombe Farm can also provide a little learning with a lot of fun. An informal tasting might last two hours, with 6 – 8 wines and a little nibble to help while away a summer afternoon. (Minimum six people required)

Activity

There is so much to do locally, that it would be impossible to provide an exhaustive list. Fishing, clay pigeon shoots and horse riding are all easy to organise and only a short car ride away.

Churchill School provides a sports centre with indoor pool, squash and badminton. Just down the road is Churchill dry ski slope, with skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing available.

There are several golf courses nearby, providing a range of games to suit all levels. Cycle hire is possible in Wells, boating on the Avon and Kenet canals and, for a more unusual adventure, why not try rock climbing, caving, orienteering, archery, go-karting and even hot air ballooning.

For the children, there are several animal farms, theme parks, the Tropicana outdoor pool and Sealife Aquarium at Weston-Super-Mare, Bristol Ice Rink and Butlins at Minehead.
